About the Project

The Harrigan Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Harrigan name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Harrigan name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Harrigan's), by time period (18th Century Harrigan's), or by topic (Harrigan DNA, Harrigan Occupations, Harrigan Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

Research Pages

Here are some of the current research pages included in the study. I'll be working on them, and could use your help!

  • Denis Harrigan and his wife Catherine Driscoll who came from Schull, County Cork, Ireland to the Miramichi in New Brunswick. This is the Bing Crosby line and many trees inaccurately connect to these Harrigans as their ancestors.
  • David Haragan and his wife Christina O'Hearn who came from County Cork to Caledon, Peel, Ontario.
  • Jeremiah Horgan and his wife Jane Mahoney who, along with his 3 children, perished on the voyage from Schull to Canada. Jane later married David Horrigan making some researchers incorrectly believe they were brothers. This has been disproven.
  • Patrick Harrigan and his wife Margaret Lynch from Newtown in Shandrum, County Cork, Ireland who has been confused with Patrick Harrigan of New Brunswick.
  • Thomas Harrigan and his wife, Honora Coughlan who came from unknown place in Ireland to New York City.
  • David Horgan and his wife Honora Coghlin from Middletown & Ballyrobin, County Cork, Ireland.
  • Thomas Horrigan and his wife Mary Cadogan from Ballmacoda Ladysbridge, County Cork, Ireland.
  • Horgans of Kanturk
